Gerber Baby Contest

The Gerber baby contest is the grand daddy of all baby photo contests.

Back in 1928, Frank and Daniel Gerber were looking for the perfect baby face to launch their new line of baby food. In order to find that perfect face they started a contest during that summer.

Since it was back in 1928 and personal photography was still a ways from being common place, drawings, sketches and even paintings of babies were submitted to the contest.

In the end a simple charcoal sketch by artist Dorothy Hope Smith was chosen as the winner. The picture was of little Anne Turner Cook, a five month old baby at the time. Her wide eyed, tousled look became so popular that Gerber made the image their official trademark in 1931.

There have been many rumors over the years that the original Gerber baby was in fact Humphrey Bogart.  Unfortunately, as fun as this rumor is, it’s simply untrue.

Head to the Gerber baby contest here. You can also enter the Gerber sponsored Cute Kid of the Year contest.

If you want to maximize your child’s chances of winning, you might as well enter more than one contest!

Good luck to your little guy!
